Tips

In the past, we flew into St. Lucia, sailed to St. Vincent, the Grenadines, and ended in Grenada. The passages between St. Lucia and St. Vincent were long and sometimes rough. Union Island to Grenada is also long. This year, we flew directly into St. Vincent and ended in St. Vincent with sails only a couple hours except for the sail back to St. Vincent. In general, people enjoyed this more than the long passages.

This trip we also planned days without planned activities. We spent two nights in the Tobago Cays on week one and it was excellent. It was just long enough to relax but not too long that we got bored.

We had a pre-sail party two weeks before departure so people could meet and pick boats. It would be better to do this three weeks prior to allow boat assignments and a letter summarizing the trip details to be distributed in sufficient time for people to make their preparations and purchases.

Most people do not like to share the cost of dinner evenly so it is best to get separate checks for every two or three people to make the accounting simple.

It's a good idea to bring a fishing scale to weigh fish and lobster to be sure you get a good deal when purchasing from fishermen.

The prices at the grocery store near the airport are pretty good for local foods but the selection is small.  The cost of the taxi ride from the marina was $25EC each way. It would works best to bring breakfasts and lunchs from home and plan dinners to be purchased there.

It may be a good policy to always bring a flashlight when leaving the boat.  A VHF radio might also be a good idea.

It's best to hike in bathing shorts as they dry quickly and sometimes it rains on the volcanos.

Make mailing labels for addresses but make them cool so they look good on post cards.
